Tell us a bit about yourself and your startup.
My name is Peter Coppinger and I am the CEO and co-founder of Cork based company Teamwork.com. We create a suite of business management applications that help run your business. Our products include a project management tool, a helpdesk and a real time messenger. Teamwork was founded in 2007 and we currently have a team of 70 people.
What is your vision for Teamwork?
My vision is to develop a suite of software that integrates with each other and will therefore help you run your entire business.
What have been your biggest hurdles as entrepreneurs, and how did you get over them?
Because we are completely self funded it was difficult in the early days. We had to run our web development agency on the side in order to be able to fund the development of our project management tool. In more recent years we have faced challenges scaling the company, getting the right talent, implementing processes.
Both my co founder and I are developers so a lot of this was completely new to us and it was difficult to avoid coding and focus on other aspects of the business. That being said we have a strong and experienced team in place now who help with so much of this.
What are your views on entrepreneurship in Cork?
I think there are a lot of positive things happening in Cork. It’s important that the business community here supports and encourages each other.
What motivates you – in other words – why do you do what you do?
Simple. Bill Gates. When I first read about him I was instantly inspired and knew I wanted to try and follow in his footsteps. Now I want the personal satisfaction that comes with building a big company. Also I love software, I love building products that can make an impact.
