Minister Dara Murphy T.D. officially launched The Global Startup Gathering 2016 (GSG) on July 12th at Cork Airport, with over 100 national and international guests in attendance.
The GSG 2016 will run from November 18th to 20th in Cork City, with three action-packed days of events. Speaking at the launch, the Minister welcomed the startup event, saying “The startup spotlight will certainly be focused on Ireland, and particularly Cork, in November 2016″.
Kicking off proceedings with opening addresses were the Mayor of County Cork Seamus McGrath, and the Lord Mayor of Cork Des Cahill. Both expressed their excitement for the upcoming events to take place, with Cork as the beautiful backdrop.
A highlight of the launch was the announcement of ‘The Global Investor Challenge’ by Michael O’Connor of Cork BIC (Business Innovation Centre).
The global challenge calls on investor ready entrepreneurs to compete, with the winner being announced during the gala dinner event at The Global Startup Gathering. “This is a great opportunity for budding entrepreneurs, with a prize fund of €50k up for grabs” says Michael O’Connor of Cork BIC.
The launch event was catered by Taste Cork, a food initiative supporting a sustainable local food industry. Taste Cork supplied a beautiful spread, celebrating the uniqueness of Cork’s food culture.
The feast included Ardsallagh cheeses and local cured meats, all topped off with Cork’s favourite relish from Ballymaloe. For the sweet tooth, chocolate cups were aplenty, crafted by our home-grown chocolatiers.
Over 100 guests attended the launch, including all twelve partners of the Cork Innovates steering group. Project coordinator of Cork Innovates Siobhan Finn spoke about what to expect from the GSG event in November including, “debate and discussions, pitches, workshops, immersion labs, networking opportunities and expert mentoring”
Cork Innovates comprises twelve of the most influential organisations in the Cork region, who are actively engaged in entrepreneurial, innovation or business support activities.
