The Startup Gathering 2015 took place across Ireland from the 5th to the 10th of October. The weekend showcased the vibrancy of Ireland’s startup ecosystem and engaged over 18,000 individuals, across 22 counties, in five days.
Almost 400 Gatherings took place in 5 counties across 5 days, with Dublin, Limerick, Galway, Waterford and Cork highlighting their respective ecosystems. The Startup Ireland Vision 2020 Forum was held in Cork on October 7th, with a panel of international and national business leaders, such as Boris Kantsepolsky of MSIL Tel Aviv, Martin Murray of Asia Matters and Julie Sinnamon of Enterprise Ireland. There was a fantastic turnout of indigenous Cork startups at the festivities including 4impacts, Radisens Diagnostics, Over-C, Dare Technology, Glow Dx and Atlantia Food Trials.
With the theme “Start, Scale, Succeed”, the Forum discussed the necessary conditions required from a successful startup ecosystem, and facilitated debate on developing Cork’s entrepreneurial networks and ultimately job creation in the startup sector. Siobhan Finn, Project Director at Cork Innovates, was elected City Coordinator for Startup Ireland Cork. She spoke of the success of Startup Ireland 2015.
“Myself and my partner stakeholders at Cork Innovates believe that this is an “age of opportunity” for Cork and Ireland in terms of startups. Our focus is to create a momentum that builds on the existing infrastructure for SMEs and entrepreneurs in Cork, where more than 65 events were hosted across the region, to promote, motivate and create momentum for startups”.
The week-long Startup Gathering is an expo promoting entrepreneurship and showcasing Ireland’s startup sector to a domestic and international audience. Over 420 events were held nationally, supported by the Startup Ireland Partnership, the Department of Jobs Enterprise and Innovation and with sponsorship from Bank of Ireland. The Startup Island 2020 Forum was the flagship event for the Startup Gathering in Cork, where more than 65 events were held across the region to promote, motivate and and create momentum for startups.
